God’s Hands

We are God’s hands. All of us. Have you ever thought about that?

I was just sitting, watching the coverage of the squabbling in Washington and thinking about the poor, starving and needy people in the world. I’m pretty sure that with the deal that is being passed, there will be more poor, starving and needy people in the world than before this deal was passed.

In watching the coverage of the ridiculous spectacle in Washington interspersed with the coverage of the starving in Africa, it made me sad to think about the priorities of our leaders. People are starving to death and our leaders are too busy arguing to do anything about it. But, just because they are acting like children, does that mean that we have to do the same?

We are God’s hands. All of us. My pastor, in his sermon on Sunday, pointed out that, before Jesus fed the 5,000 with three loaves of bread and two fish, he told the disciples to feed the people. They wanted to send the people away to get food and Jesus said to feed them. They showed him the little bit of food they had and he made it stretch. A miracle. But he used the disciples to help make that miracle happen.

We are God’s hands. All of us. Has God asked you to help Him carry out a miracle?

I would guess that He has. When you help the poor, widows, orphans, those in prison, those who are sick, or anyone who is need, you are helping God with His work. His miracles. When you help out with a meal at church or at a soup kitchen, you are helping God. When you give someone a ride to the doctor’s office, you are helping God. When you visit someone who is sick or in prison, you are helping God. You are performing as God’s hands here on earth. You are assisting God in carrying out His blessings. What a deep and wonderful honor.

We are God’s hands. All of us. May our eyes see, our ears hear, our minds become aware and our hearts be open to God’s leading and guidance. Every minute of every day. So that all of us can do what we can to be God’s hands.
