I found my thumb ring! Yeah!!!
At the beginning of March, I was getting out of my car one night and the ring slipped right off my thumb. It got caught on my purse and went flying. It was cold that night and my fingers had shrunk a little, as they are apt to do in cold weather. I searched through my vehicle and on the ground around it and couldn’t find the ring anywhere.
The next morning, I went out and searched again but it was no where to be found. I figured that it had to be in the van somewhere and, if I cleaned it out, I would probably find it hiding under something. But, as I said, it was cold and the idea of cleaning it out didn’t really sit well with me. If the ring was in the van, then it would still be there when it was a bit warmer out.
A month later, I did clean the van throughly. Looked under the seats, moved everything out that normally stays in the van (map books, ice scraper, cloth grocery bags, etc.) and took everything out that doesn’t belong in the van (my winter coat, books, advertisements that came in the mail, etc.) and the ring wasn’t in the van. It was quite the mystery. After all, it wasn’t like the ring could have just vanished. It had to be somewhere either in the van or on the ground around the van.
Finally I just accepted the fact that the ring was gone. It was lost. I tried to find a replacement ring, where I had bought the lost ring, but Kohl’s didn’t have that style anymore. This meant I would have to keep looking in different stores or on-line until I found a ring that would be comfortable to where on my right thumb. (Since I am right handed, the ring has to fit in such a way that I can still write with it on).
Then, this morning, I was getting in my van and a shiny object caught my eye. There was the ring!!! Lying in the grass next to the parking lot!!! JOY!!!
It must have slipped off my thumb and somehow landed in the snow bank, which was there in March. The thing that puzzles me is that since it was lying right there, why didn’t the lawn mower chop it up? The lawn has been mowed once a week for about six weeks. That is six times the ring has gone under the mower. The only thing I can think of is that, since it was on the edge right next to the parking lot, maybe it was close enough to the pavement that the pavement protected it.
I’m just glad to have it back. My thumb felt naked without it. Now I’m back to having an even number of rings on each hand. In case you don’t remember, because I did blog about my ring obsession, it is three rings on each hand. One on each pinky, one on each thumb and one on my middle finger of my left hand and one on the ring finger of my right hand. All sterling silver. Of course, sometimes, when I’m feeling fancy, I will add another ring to the middle finger of my right hand. But only when I am dressed up. Otherwise I think it is a bit excessive.
I keep thinking of the Bible verses where the woman finds the coin she has lost. In case you don’t remember, it is Luke 15:8 – 9:“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ I have felt like that since I found my ring. Like I should have a party to celebrate what I have found. Then again, it is just a ring. It probably has more meaning to me than anyone else. Still, finding it has made me very, very happy!
