May Day

Today is May Day!!

For a lot of the world that means that today is their Labor Day.  There are also many other reasons to celebrate around the world from ancient pagan celebrations to giving baskets of flowers and treats to someone you care about.  In Kennebunk, ME, it is a day to have a festival.  We have a parade, food stands, bands playing, booths of things to see and buy, etc.  It’s quite the event!

Since the May Day celebration in Kennebunk is always on the first Saturday in May, it also means it coincides with my church’s monthly bean supper. This can be a good thing because it means more people will come to our supper.  But this can also be a bad thing because it means that more people will come to our supper.  It could end up being incredibly hectic and busy.  Great for the diners, hard on the volunteers.  Sort of a yin/yang kind of thing.

This year my church is also doing a booth for the May Day festivities in which we are selling sausages and peppers, meatball subs and hot dogs.  It’s supposed to be a fundraiser for the church but after the volunteers deduct what they bought, it may end up being a wash.  But it is good advertising for us.  So even if it doesn’t end up being that much of a fundraiser, it is a good thing for evangelism.

Actually I find it hard to believe that it is already May Day.  What happened to winter?  Summer is almost here!  This year is flying by so fast.  I hope my feeling this way doesn’t meant that I’m getting old.  Nah….can’t be.  I’m too young to be getting old!

Happy May Day, everyone!!
