Today’s Thoughts (2/21/10)

A few thoughts at the end of the weekend:

– Went to see the movie “Dear John” today.  I had read the book so I thought I knew how it ended.  About five minutes into the movie I realized that they weren’t following the book and about fifteen minutes in, I put it out of my mind that I had read the book and just enjoyed the movie.  There are parts that were similar to the book but a lot of the major components from the book had been changed.  If you take the movie on it’s own, it’s a good movie.  Very enjoyable.  If you go in thinking it is going to be like the book, you will be disappointed and probably confused, as I was for a while.  I agree with a friend of mine, it is better to see a movie first and then read the book.  That way the anticipation isn’t there and you won’t be disappointed when the characters you have in your head from reading the book don’t match what is on the screen.

– Yes, I officially have a cold. Felt pretty sick all weekend and will probably be sick for this next week.  I had a fever last night when I got home from church but I didn’t this morning.  But I am all stuffy and coughy and sneezy and feeling pretty miserable.  I should stay home from work tomorrow but I know I won’t.  I’ll go in and, more than likely, they will send me home by the afternoon.  Oh well.

-You know how some women have a ton of shoes?  Like Imelda Marcos? (go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imelda_Marcos if you don’t remember) Well, I seem to have the same obsession with socks.  Particularly black socks.  I have enough socks to last me at least a month before I would have to wash them.  At least a month…if not longer.  I went to TJ Maxx yesterday with friends between going to the movie and going out to eat.  What did I buy???  More socks.  More BLACK socks.  Why?  Because they were different from the black socks I already own.  I did buy a pair of purple knee highs in addition to the black socks.  I don’t know….sometimes I wonder about me.  Black socks.  Yup.  Warm, soft, and they go with everything.  Well, at least everything I wear.  Except when I’m wearing my brown pants and my brown boots.  Then I have a whole array of socks that go with that! Of course, if I had a job that required me to get dressed up, I might wear something different.  But I wear jeans or pants to work every day.  If I show up in a skirt, my boss thinks I have a job interview or something.  It’s a pretty casual office.  And the black socks go with my jeans and pants and all the shoes I wear.  Yeah, that’s it.  It’s not an obssession.  It’s for work!  Let’s stick with that.

– I just realized the Olympics have been on a week and I haven’t posted anything about them.  I may have to do that soon.  Just because I watched some of the curling competition this weekend.  Fascinating sport.
