For a long time, I resisted having the little help figure in Microsoft Office programs. Don’t need some stupid little figure giving me advice on what I am doing. Seemed rather pointless. Especially the little paper clip guy. Really, that thing should die a slow, painful, twisty death. Incredibly annoying.
Recently I activated it so I could have the little Einstein character on the screen when I’m in Word or Excel. At first it was just a novelty thing. Something to brighten my day at work.
But now I seem to almost interact with it. I know. Crazy. But when he opens his door, walks in, yawns and then waves at me, I can’t help but wave back. Like he can actually see me. Then, when I shut things down and he waves at me before going back through the door, I wave good-bye.
It’s a little one-inch cartoon on my screen. Not a real person, by any stretch of the imagination. But he’s cute. He’s friendly. He’s comical. And he’s Einstein. And every so often he does have a suggestion that is helpful. Not very often but it does happen.
I guess I’m safe for now. Waving hello and good-bye is pretty harmless. When I start saying “God bless you” when he sneezes (another one of his exit strategies), then I think I might really need some help. You know…funny farm, straightjacket, padded cell…. the whole thing. Let’s hope it doesn’t get that far…
I didn’t even know there was an Einstein, I’ll have to check to see what Vista has. I didn’t realize I have no Office Assistant activated on my laptop! How unnecessarily lonely I’ve been….
When I was working at Jeff’s office, I had the dog barking, scratching, whimpering. And I loved it…so why don’t I have assistance on my laptop?
Okay, so I’ve posted at least 2 comments. Not that they come with strings attached, it’s just that I’m feeling a little lonely over on my blog (hint, hint). Maybe I just need to activate an Assistant. Maybe…..
