Yesterday I called Travelocity to change my car reservation for my vacation. Reserved a full size not even thinking that you can’t fit four kids (my sister’s daughters) in the back seat of a car…especially when one is in a baby seat. So I needed to upgrade to a mini van.
The woman who answered the phone clearly had an Indian accent. And I could hear, in the background, a bunch of other people speaking with Indian accents. She was very nice and helpful with the change to my reservation. She didn’t seem to have problems with her computer or understanding what I needed and the transaction went through as smooth as anything.
When we finished the business portion of the call, I asked her:
“Where I am calling?”
“Uhm….” she said, “you mean, Travelocity?”
“No, I know I am calling Travelocity (thanks for thinking I’m that dimwitted), I mean where in the world am I calling?”
“Oh” she said, and then lowered her voice, “you are calling India”.
“What part of India?”
“Mumbai”
“Well, how are things in Mumbai today?”
“Uhm…it’s raining”.
“Really? It’s going to rain here tomorrow! Well, thank you for your help!”
“Ok….uhm…thank you for calling Travelocity!”
“Thank you!! Have a good day! Good bye!”
“Uhm….thank you for calling….Good bye.”
After I hung up, I can just imagine her turning to her fellow workers and saying “Crazy American”.
It’s just so much fun to freak people out by leaving the normal thread of a conversation. It just makes Life that much more interesting.
I am soooooooo glad you’ve started blogging. I knew you’d be really good at it.
Keep’em coming!
