Respect

Did you see the President talk to the join session of Congress last night? I did. And when Congressman Wilson yelled out “You lie!”, I was stunned. First of all, he was wrong. President Obama wasn’t lying. He is trying to fix a very broken system. Why people don’t want to work with him and make this succeed is really beyond my comprehension. Secondly, it was incredibly disrespectful. No matter what…no matter your politics….no matter your beliefs…President Obama is the duly elected president of the United States. Whether you agree with him or not, the office should be respected. Even President Bush, who had the lowest approval ratings than any president in recent history (if ever), made speeches, he still had the respect of the office and no one would even consider being that rude to him. If a Democrat had shouted that in that location, that Democrat would have been censured and probably have been asked to resign.

President Obama was far more gracious to Congressman Wilson than Congressman Wilson had been to him. President Obama accepted his apology. I know that was the proper thing to do. The gracious thing to do. But I’m not sure if I can be that understanding. I think he should be censured, at the very least.

The health care system in this country is a royal mess. It shouldn’t be a privilege to get decent care. It is a right. The whole system needs to be fixed. As soon as possible. If you don’t have a solution that is better than what the president is offering, then sit down, shut up and let the work get done.
