Today is the ninth day of the ninth month of the ninth year of the new century. So it is 09/09/09.  It was mentioned on the Today Show this morning that this won’t happen again until January 1, 2101, which will be 01/01/01.

Except what about next year on October 10^th?  It will be 10/10/10.  Isn’t that significant?  Then the following year we have 11/11/11.  Then there is 12/12/12.   Yes, we will be in the double digits but I don’t think that should make it less significant.  Actually, I think that 11/11/11 is fascinating since it is six “ones” in a row.

The only time we can sadly report  that “this won’t happen again until…” is in 2012 since we only have 12 months in a year.  So in 2013 we won’t have any interesting day to note how the numbers are in a certain pattern.  Not to disagree with the Today Show but it is on  12/12/12, that we can say “this won’t happen again until 01/01/01”.
