If you haven’t heard, we had a bit of a storm here in New England. Actually it was the Blizzard of 2013 or Winter Storm Nemo (if you watch the weather channel).
I had the foresight to take before pictures thinking that the contrast with the after pictures would be pretty spectacular. And I was right.
These were taken two days ago, before the storm even formed:
There was just a little bit of snow here and there but this was soon to change. Here are the pictures after the storm:
These two above are from after the plow guy started on the driveway.
This is our neighbor’s driveway and garage. They haven’t even started cleaning the snow out. Good luck there!
As you can see, we parked the other car in the neighbors driveway. Yeah, they haven’t started cleaning that up either.
All in all, it was the worse blizzard I have lived through and I used to live in Nebraska (where blizzards are common in the winter). It was just such a huge amount of snow to fall in such a short period of time.
The good news is that it has stopped snowing, the winds have died down and we are plowed out…at least two of the cars are plowed out. So I can go to church in the morning and drive around to see how much snow other areas have received.
One final note on this storm…why is it necessary for the media to name winter storms now? My younger brother has the theory that it helps the parts of the country that don’t have hurricanes not to be left out of the named storm thingy. I think that it is pretty ridiculous. After all, how do they determine how bad a winter storm has to be before it is named? What about little clippers that come through Maine and dump eight to ten inches of snow on a small area of the state? That is a snowstorm to those who are effected by it but do little snowstorms like that get a name?
I think we should just label winter storms as they have always been labeled. The Blizzard of ’78. The Patriot’s Day Storm. The Ice Storm of ’97. Giving a winter storm an actual name is ridiculous and pointless. It doesn’t make the shoveling more fun.
Hope everyone gets dug out and life returns to normal for all of us impacted by the Blizzard of ’13! (Nemo…geez!)
