11/11/11

Supposedly today is a special day. I say “supposedly” because the reason it is supposed to be special is because of the date. It is November 11, 2011 or, in other words, 11/11/11.

Pretty neat. Six “ones” in a row. Cool!!

But, is that it? Yes, I will admit it is a pretty interesting phenomena but is it really worth all the news coverage? With all the things going on in the world right now do we really need to spend so much time commenting on the fact that the date is six numbers ones in a row? Plus doing news stories on kids who are turning 11 on 11/11/11? And doing stories of babies that are born today at 11:11 am or pm? Is this really worth our time and attention?

After all, there are so many other times throughout time that the date creates an interesting numeric phenomena. For example, 01/01/01, 02/02/02, 03/03/03, 04/04/04, 05/05/05, 06/06/06….you get my drift? There has been a special date like this every year for the last 11 years and there will be one next year when it is 12/12/12. Are we going to have numerous news stories about that date with interviews of children who are turning 12 or interviews with parents who have babies at 12:12 am or 12:12 pm?

I understand that we need some frivolity to brighten our moods since there is so much death, destruction and dissension going on in the world today. It does ease the despair that could be caused by the domination in the news of dastardly events. But, darn it all, does this date deserve the domination of the news cycle?

Then again, if they aren’t covering this unique date in history, they would just be covering the 72 day marriage of a certain reality star who is famous for being famous. Because THAT is certainly worthy of our attention.

So let us celebrate something that is rare and that we have no control over. Let us contemplate the wonder that is today’s date. Let us marvel at the “ones” all lined up in a row. Isn’t it just…what is the word…hmm…fascinating?

Eh…for me? Not so much. I would rather use my thoughts to think about other things. Such as, how many times in this blog can I use the same letter over and over in a sentence or series of sentences. Superbly symmetrical syntax that leads to wondrous writing although probably wrong and woogy in it’s creativity cause I am now making up words. (“woogy”? Really?).

That is enough of that. Enjoy the uniqueness that is 11/11/11, in any way you feel it is necessary to acknowledge the day. This is pretty much all the acknowledgement I want to make and actually feel like it is way to much even spending this much time on it. Oh well. It was worth noting…
