Warning, warning, warning….

Tomorrow is Election Day!!!

Actually, this is mostly a reminder for me. Until my brother mentioned it on the phone this evening, I was under the mistaken impression that Election Day is next week. I think it is because this is the earliest an Election Day could be since the first Tuesday in November was actually November 1st.

There are only issues on the ballot here in Maine. No one running for office as far as Senators, Congressman or Governor and, of course, the presidential election is a year away.

But the issues on the ballot are very important since two of them have to do with putting more casinos here in Maine.  My opinion? We do not need any more casinos in Maine. I didn’t want them to put the one in Oxford County and that was passed anyway. They haven’t even finished building it and now they want to increase the number of casinos to five. We do not have the population to support five casinos and people from outside of Maine are going to Foxwoods in Massachusetts before they are going to drive up to Biddeford or Lewiston, ME. Why don’t we wait to see what kind of impact the Oxford casino has on the state and how well it does before we add more? Besides we all know that the money from the casino is going to out-of-state investors rather than stay in the state. Why do we want to give them our hard earned money?

The other major issue, as far as I am concerned, is whether or not to allow same day registration of voters on Election Day. Same day registration works for our state but there are people trying to take it away by making up issues around voter fraud…of which there aren’t any documented cases on which to base the argument. They, the people who are against it, just don’t like it and want it to stop. I think that we should just do what we have been doing and let people register the same day. Let’s not create a problem where there isn’t a problem.

Anyway, wherever you live in the United States, tomorrow is Election Day. Remember to vote!!! It is our right and privilege as American citizens to speak our minds and cast a vote. Let’s make this the greatest turn out ever!!!
