Tremor Envy

I missed it. The big earthquake yesterday that was felt in 22 states by millions of people and I missed it. I was taking a brief nap from 1:45 until around 2:30 and, when I woke up, I had an e-mail from my brother saying “Just had an earthquake here!”.

He told me tonight that he had felt his chair moving to the beat of the music while he was working at his desk and thought he was making it move. Then he realized he wasn’t and noticed that the plants in the windows were swaying. So not a HUGE deal but he did feel it.

Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News said that people who missed feeling anything are experiencing Tremor Envy. That is me.

Why did I have to doze off at that moment? Six minutes later and I would have felt it. At least I hope I would have felt it. We are pretty far north here in Maine and I know other people who didn’t feel it. Maybe it depends on the land where you were at that particular moment. I guess I will never know unless we have another one.

My brother told me that someone posted on Reddit today a picture of some outdoor furniture with a table and four chairs. One of the chairs had fallen over. The person put above it: August 23, 2011 – Never Forget!

It really wasn’t that huge of a deal. Granted there was some damage close to the epicenter but no one was injured and the damage wasn’t sever. I think mostly people just panicked, just because they didn’t know what was going on and didn’t know how it would end.

Oh well. I still wish I had experienced it. I guess I will just have to stay up forever so I won’t miss things like this. That’s the plan. I will stay up. Never sleep. Never….sleep…again…….zzzzzzzzzzzz.
