Opposite

Today has been the opposite of two days ago. On Thursday it was so hot that I hid in my apartment all day with the air conditioner running. Today it has been so cold and rainy I hid in my apartment all day just trying to stay warm. Complete opposite.

Granted I could have closed the windows and turned on the heat but it is June. As long as it was too cold to run the air, I feel I should have the windows open. Unless it rains in and it was a soft rain all day with no wind so the windows could stay open. But it has been in the 50’s and very chilly. I should have closed up everything and turned the heat on but I refuse to run the heat again until next fall. No matter how cold it gets. Not that I pay for heat because it comes with the apartment but it is a principle. No heat until fall.

So I stayed inside all day, dressed in warm clothes and tried to ignore the chill drifting in from outdoors. But now that the sun is going down (at least I think it is because it is getting darker – too cloudy to actually see the sun), I guess I can close the windows. It might help warm things up a little in here. If it doesn’t, I can always go to bed and snuggle under the blankets to get warm.

The weather has been so strange lately. I do believe in global warming and that may be a factor. But I also know they have only been keeping records for a little over 100 years so this kind of weather may have occurred before. I do seem to remember reading in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book called “The Long Winter” that they had so much snow one winter, the homes were pretty much buried and they had to dig a tunnel to get out the barn to feed the animals. So odd weather has happened before.

That said, it feels strange to have been so hot two days ago and today to be so cold. Then again, this is Maine. And it is spring. And these things happen.

Time to close up the apartment. I cling to the thought that warmer days are coming. In the mean time, BRRRRRR……..
