Movie Glitches

A couple of friends and I went to see a movie yesterday.  It was “How Do You Know”.  It was ok.  More of a DVD kind of movie than a theater kind of movie.  Just seem to be a little convaluted and didn’t really flow very smoothly.  It had a few good moments but only a few.

The reason I am even mentioning it was the quality of the movie as it played.  This wasn’t the fault of the makers of the movie but of the theater.  When the previews started playing, the sound was off from the picture.  As the movie started, this continued.  So one of my friends went out to complain.  They adjusted it but, when they did, they moved the picture up so it cut off people’s heads.  After about a minute of this, someone else got up and went out to complain.  They re-adjusted the picture but not all the way.  We could still see the very top of the movie above the curtain at the top of the screen.

So, I went out to talk to the manager.  I explained to her that the top of the movie was being cut off.  She said it had been adjusted.  I said not enough and could she start the movie again.  She informed me that would not be possible but would have them adjust it again.

I went back into the theater but I soon realized that I had missed a chunk of the movie that set up the rest of the movie.  Needless to say, not the best movie going experience.

After the movie, with my friends backing me up, I asked to speak to the manager and complained to her that the movie was ruined for us since so much of the first part was spent dealing with the adjustments that had to be made.  She apologized and gave us three free passes for a movie.

All in all, I think we came out ahead.  As I said at the beginning, the movie seemed like it was really for DVD and not the theater. And now we get a free movie for something in the future that, hopefully, will be worth seeing in the theater.  Sometimes it really pays to speak up when a glitch is happening and keep speaking up until the problem is resolved to your satisfaction. We weren’t rude about it. Just firm in a diplomatic kind of way. And we were rewarded and all is well!
