Just following up on a few items that I have blogged about recently:

  • A few of us were discussing my bat situation before the Council meeting last night and I received a couple of suggestions. One guy said to put a basket over it, slide a cookie sheet under and carry it outdoors to let it go. Another guy said to use a bath towel and grab it and carry it outdoors. I said that they were both great suggestions but that my ceilings are pretty high and the bat was up towards the top. They then agreed that calling the police was probably the right idea. I mentioned my idea of buying a net and some heavy duty gloves so I could do what the police did if it happens again and the general consensus was that, if I go to the effort of buying the stuff I need, I will never get a bat in my apartment again. Which is true. It’s like losing something and then buying a replacement and, as soon as you walk in the house, you find what you have been looking for right where you left it. What is that called? Murphy’s Law?

  • I received a marriage proposal this past weekend. Now don’t get too excited because that has a story to it. I baked another cheesecake for the bean supper we had at church this past Saturday. I baked my usual two pies in addition to the cheesecake – this month apple crumb and coconut cream – but I am doing my experimenting thing on cheesecakes so I decided to bake another one for the supper. I wanted to see what would happen if I put the water bath on the rack beneath the cheesecake so that I would still get the benefit of the steam but the cheesecake wouldn’t be getting waterlogged (see Pesto and Blackberries on July 31st). So I made the cheesecake on Friday night and I did get some cracks in the top but they closed up as the cheesecake cooled. Besides, I covered the top with blackberries so no one would have seen the cracks anyway. But back to the marriage proposal…I had to go into church for the service while the supper was going on since I had to run the power point and I was doing the prayers. When I came out of the service, I was checking on the progress on the meal and I stopped by the desert table. There were only two pieces of the cheesecake left! I was very pleased and mentioned to the person behind the table that I was surprised it went so rapidly. She said that everyone loved it and that I received a marriage proposal. I said, “Really? Was he old?”. She said he was not old but young….closer to my age. I asked if he was cute and she said he was pretty good looking. I asked her what he said and she said that he came back up to the desert table after eating the cheesecake and said he wanted to marry the person who made that cheesecake. Unfortunately he was gone already so I don’t know who he was or what he looked like (other than young and pretty good looking). But I’m thinking that next month I am making another cheesecake and this time I am staying at the supper the whole time in case he shows up again. Not that I think anything will happen but one never knows

  • As far as boating this summer…my brother is pretty sure that since we haven’t received much significant rain this summer, the water level in the culvert between Goose Pond and Mousam Lake may have dropped to the point that we can’t get through. That is really disappointing. Unless it rains buckets for a day or so, the water level is just going to continue to fall and his boat will be trapped in Goose Pond. When we went through two weeks ago, his trolling motor kept hitting bottom and he ended up having to raise it up close to the surface. Once we were either on Mousam or back on Goose Pond we were fine but the water level in the inlet and through the culvert was very low. Oh well. We have no control over it so I guess fussing about it will be pointless. I did point out to him that he could take the garden hose, go to the bridge over the culvert and try to fill it up. He thought that would be funny. To sit on the bridge with a six-pack and run the hose all day trying to make the water level higher. Now there’s a picture worth taking! The caption would be “Foolish Endeavor”!

I think that is all for now at 7:00 on a Wednesday morning. So what should I do next? Hmmm…since I don’t have to get ready for work I may just go back to bed and sleep some more!!
