A few thoughts on things that have been in the news lately:
– I wasn’t going to comment on the whole Lindsey Lohan thing because, frankly, I think that it has been sensationalized and is overly dramatic. But I do want to say three things about the whole thing. First, her excuse that she couldn’t complete the classes as required by the court because she had work and family obligations is completely idiotic. I know people who have had to take classes for DUI or for speeding and they have taken time off of work or away from family in order to do what the court has asked them to do. Having your life inconvenienced is part of the punishment when you break the law. No one else with any brains would expect to have the court give them leniency because they have to work. If that really worked, then no one would fulfill his or her obligations and there would be no punishment for breaking the law. Secondly, clean your stupid nails. You can’t tell me she didn’t know that she had an obscenity written on her nails before going to court. After all, she took the time to dress appropriately. She never looked at her nails and thought that having that written on them might be considered an insult to the court? Anyone with any brains would realize how that would be perceived. Lastly, it was a simple DUI from three years ago. Just do your time, obey the courts and quit making excuses and whining about it. If you had simply done what you were supposed to do three years ago, this would be all over and done with. Grow up already.
– Now regarding Mel Gibson…two thoughts: he needs psychiatric help in a big way and she needs to stop being passive aggressive. I’m not condoning him hitting her, if that is what happened and it sounds like it is what happened. But if you listen to the tape, she is baiting him and pushing his buttons. They both need to look at their behavior because they have a little girl who is going to look to them on how to behave and it would be nice if she didn’t grow up to be a passive aggressive person with a bad temper and narrow minded racist views.
– I’m a little confused about the whole Russian spy-ring case. Aren’t they supposed to be our friends now? The cold war is over. What information were they trying to gather and for what purpose? Haven’t we volunteered to help them with their failing systems and don’t we have trade relations with them now? And if they have people living in our country pretending to be Americans, what other countries are doing it? Lithuania? Mongolia? Canada? Can you imagine the intrigue…the scandal? A bunch of Canadians living amongst us pretending to be as American as apple pie when in fact they are spying on us and sending the information back to their country in order to plan, um, an invasion. Yeah, that’s it. They are going to send their army over the border and attack us and try to take over this country to make us like them. O the horror!! As you can see, I am not sure why this spy ring was a big deal. Granted, they shouldn’t have been spying on us and I guess that is the point. We caught them and so they had to go back home. Although we got the short end of the deal since we received fewer people back then we sent them. It should have been an even exchange. They owe us more in return. If they didn’t have enough of our people for an even exchange then send back some cases of vodka and caviar to even it up. That would be fairer and make more sense. Or at least add a ridiculous element to a story that is bordering on the ridiculous anyway.
There are other things I have read or seen on the news but I may just save those comments for another posting. For instance, in case you were wondering, I am wondering if BP is selling the oil they are siphoning off the ocean and out of the broken well. I hope not because that would just be wrong. I also am wondering why some stories receive a plethora of attention and other stories are mentioned once and go away. We have 24-hour news cycles. Can’t we get more even coverage of what is happening in the world? There are other things I am curious about but, as I said, I will save them for future postings.
