Killer Whale

They came out on the news last night with the final assessment of the trainer who was killed by the whale at Sea World on February 24th.  What they reported was that her pony tail landed in the whales mouth accidentally, he pulled her under the water, she tried to break free and did at one point but he kept pulling her down and eventually killed her.  This is beyond belief tragic not only for the people who were watching but for her family and friends.  Not to mention that the whole incident happened over three minutes.  Three minutes.  That is FOREVER when you are fighting for your life.  Set an egg timer sometime and sit for three minutes imagining that you are struggling for your life the whole time.  It is an eternity!

The thing that I don’t understand is why they don’t just release this whale into the wild.  He clearly is not a tame creature.  He has been involved in other deaths…this is is the third time that he has been involved in a human death.  They, the trainers, knew that once he got a hold of a human, he would not let go.  Of course, this shouldn’t be surprising.  After all, the whale’s first name is “killer”.  It is a killer whale.  Why in the world would we think we can tame such a creature and treat it like a trained dog? It belongs in the ocean, in it’s natural environment.  I know that it is entertaining to watch these wild creatures perform for us but let’s not be surprised when it behaves in a inbred manner and kills.
