God’s Ways

People who don’t have faith have difficulty understanding how God works.  Take, for example, the little girl who was found this week after five days alone in an alligator infested swamp.  The situation seemed dire and hopeless because of the conditions and it had been so long.  But a member of her church prayed, trusted God and God lead him to her. It was, without a doubt, a modern day miracle.

The person who rescued her testified how God’s hand was guiding him.  I’m sure there were people watching the news that scoffed at that account and thought it was just a huge coincidence that this happened.  After all, why did God save this little girl when so many other children who are lost are then found dead?

But, what people who don’t have faith don’t understand is that is how God works.  As I have said in previous postings, His ways are above our ways and His thoughts are above our thoughts.  It says so in the Bible.  This little girl being saved when it seemed hopeless is a sign of God still performing miracles. People who aren’t found and end up dead simply were called home to be with God in paradise.  Yes, it is tragic, actually BEYOND tragic, when someone dies a horrible death.  But God has His plans and He knows how this will all end. We don’t need to know. Even if He tried to explain it to us, it would probably be way above our heads (kind of like when my brother tries to explain some complicated computer problem to me – way over my head).

What made me think of this was an e-mail I received from my cousin James’ wife, Janeen, this week.  James died suddenly a year ago from a heart attack.  He didn’t feel good, drove himself to the hospital, and died.  Janeen wrote in an e-mail, commemorating the 1st anniversary of his passing, that she and her kids felt like James had so much more to do here on earth to serve God.  But clearly God felt his work here was done and he called James home.  Someday, when we get to heaven we can ask God: why James was taken so quickly and early?  Why was the little girl in Florida saved when so many others are not?  Why do things happen the way they do?

I’m sure His answer will be –

Because My ways are above your ways and My thoughts are above your thoughts.
