Mom

Seventy eight years ago, my grandmother was in labor.  At the end of the labor, she gave birth to my mom, Eva Justina.  My mom was one of 12 children and number 10 in the lineup.  My grandmother had a boy, a girl, a boy, and then nine girls (Walt, Julia, Joe, Marie, Ruth, Anne, Lois, Martha, Eunice, Mom, Grace and Theodora).  Most of those children grew up to marry and have large families of their own.  Thus my grandparents had sixty three (63!) grandchildren.  I’m at the bottom of the lineup since Mom didn’t get married until she was 30.

I could go on and on about Mom and what she was like.  Suffice to say, when she was young, she was beautiful.  She had a career as a x-ray technician before she married Dad.  She had four children and was a stay-at-home mom.  Mom also became a fabulous cook and taught me how to make everything from scratch. She also had an amazing talent in that she could look at a picture of an outfit and then sit down at the sewing machine and duplicate it.  No pattern, no 360 degree view.  Just one picture.  Pretty amazing!

Today would have been her 78 birthday.  As I mentioned in previous postings, she died in September of 2006.  I miss her.  Especially on a day like today when I would have called her to wish her happy birthday.  Since I can’t call her, I send my birthday wishes to heaven.  Happy Birthday, Mom!!
