A few thoughts from a delinquent blogger:
– Started a new job, albeit part-time at this point, at a supermarket in the bakery department. Feels weird to be working again after two years of unemployment. It also is different from what I used to do which is working in an office. I will write more on work in a future post (I promise!)
– As far as unemployment is concerned, despite the lowering numbers, people are still unemployed or underemployed. My case, for example. I am making far less than what I used to make (FAR less). And it is only a seasonal job. Yet technically speaking I am employed. I know many people in this situation. Just because people don’t collect unemployment or have a part-time job does not mean they aren’t unemployed. They just don’t fit the governments criteria.
– Speaking of that criteria…can you imagine what it would do to our nation’s economy if all the people who were truly unemployed were counted as unemployed. I am just guessing here but I think the true unemployment rate would be closer to 25% or 30%. And we certainly don’t want to face THAT truth. Better to keep our heads buried in the sand.
On that rather depressing note, I am going to prepare a few other postings that will automatically be posted while I am working. So you shall hear from me soon! Hopefully with happier thoughts…
