Strange Call

I just received the strangest call on my cell phone. I picked up my phone to check to see if it needed to be charged and as I pressed the button to activate the screen, the screen flashed that someone was calling me. I didn’t recognize the number but I answered it anyway.

For a few seconds, there didn’t seem to be anyone on the line. Just static. I was about to hang up when I heard someone say “hello?”. I said “hello” and the guy said that he was calling about a survey I had recently filled out on-line. I asked him what survey because I don’t remember filling out a survey. He said it was a survey to win a gift card for Wal-Mart or maybe to win a free I-Pad. I said again that I don’t remember filling out a survey and he said that I had indicated on the survey that I was interested in a job. I replied “at Wal-Mart???”

Here is the really strange part of this call. He then said “thank you for your time and I hope you have a nice day” and hung up!!

What in the world? I never filled out a survey for a free gift card for Wal-Mart because I try to never shop at Wal-Mart. They drive small businesses out of business and there products are cheap versions of the same products that are sold at other places. Plus I don’t want an I-Pad. I have a Kindle. And, despite the fact that I am unemployed, I really have no desire to work at Wal-Mart.

But, as strange as that part of the call was, the fact that he dismissed me so abruptly just was plain freaky. The only thing I can think of for why he got off the phone so quickly is that he realized he had called the wrong number.

I do have to say that, even though it was a strange call, he was very polite in hanging up on me.  I can only guess that he was being recorded. Most people aren’t that polite when they realize they had dialed wrong.

I do hope whoever did fill out that survey and wants to work at Wal-Mart will pursue it through other means since I don’t think they are going to get a call from the Survey Guy.
