Assembly on Sunday

Sunday, June 10th was the last day of the New England Synod Assembly.

We started a little later, 9:00 am, so I was able to sleep a little longer. But I did have to get packed up and check out of my room before I went over to the Mass Mutual Center since we wouldn’t be done before noon and check out was at noon. My pastor and I were driving back together since the people I came down with had to head back early for their grandson’s graduation. I met my pastor in the lobby of the hotel so he could put my stuff in the back of his car before the Sunday morning service then I headed over for the Sunday morning activities.

We had a little bit of synod business to take care of first and then we had the big Eucharist Service with the ordination of some new pastors. Once again, the service was wonderful, uplifting, joyous and moving. This, alone, made going to the Synod Assembly worthwhile.

Afterwards, we, my pastor and I, headed over to the hotel parking and we got in the car and headed back to Maine. It was a nice drive and very pleasant conversation. There weren’t any traffic tie ups and the weather was lovely. Couldn’t have gone any smoother.

He dropped me off at my car and I headed for home, but on my way I had to stop at the store for something to eat since I had no desire whatsoever to cook myself dinner.

It was good to get home, see my cat, put my pj’s on, eat dinner and then relax before bed.

Oh..almost forgot, I also boiled ten pounds of potatoes and cooked ten eggs because I had to make ten pounds of potato salad for the free community lunch at the church the next day. Again, as I stated in the previous post, I really don’t say “no” when asked to help. Actually, when I had said “yes”, I had no idea the assembly would be so exhausting. Oh well. That is how it happens sometimes. I really enjoy helping and I wanted to have some of my potato salad as much as the people at the lunch who have been asking me about it for the past six months.

All in all, it was a great Synod Assembly. I throughly enjoyed it and found it well worth the time and effort. I know what I wrote for the church newsletter and I do hope that other people volunteer to go so they can also experience it. But I also know the people I went with this time have said they aren’t going next year also so other people can experience it. So that will mean there will be two slots available for representatives. But if no one volunteers, guess whose hand is going to pop up, just like in Close Encounters? Yup…that will be mine.
