Wicked Hot

What is today?? March 18th??

It is so hot today that I am actually wearing shorts and it is still technically winter! But it is 80 degrees in my apartment and I was sweltering in the pants I had on so I had to go and change. I have all the windows open but it isn’t cooling things down much. My apartment faces south so the sun beaming in the windows makes it like a greenhouse and heats things up more than it would be otherwise. My bedroom (on the north side) is much cooler. I guess I should be in there napping rather than hanging out in the living room. But it is 6:00 and it’s too late to be napping.

I was discussing this strange weather phenomenon this morning with someone at church and she is fully convinced we are going to have one more snow storm before the official Maine winter is over. I agree with her. We will have one more storm and it will land on either Palm Sunday (April 1st) or Easter Sunday (April 8th). I think it will be Palm Sunday because that is the day that we want to march outside with the palms at the beginning of the services. After all this wonderfully warm weather it would be intensely ironic for there to be a blizzard which would prevent the march of the palms.

I am thinking that we should appreciate the warm weather while it lasts. There is no guarantee that this will last longer than a this week (or as far as the extended forecast goes). We could have a very cold and rainy April. We could even have a cold and rainy May. Actually, we could end up with a cold and rainy spring and summer. Then we will look fondly back at March and try to remember what sunshine and warmth felt like.

It’s too bad we can’t capture beautiful days like this and keep them in a box. A large glass box that we can open up on a rainy day, step inside and feel the sunshine and warmth, hear the birds chirping and smell the freshness of spring. I managed to capture the sunset last night on my phone so that is saved. But that is a one dimensional visual of that beauty. There isn’t any way to capture all the other senses at play so we can truly experience it all over again.

Oh well…today was wonderful! So I had to change my clothes to cool down. That sure beats having to put on layers of clothes just to keep warm. Nothing whatsoever to complain about. Wicked hot really is wicked good!!
