Out and About

I was out and about today. I kind of had to get out just because I had been in my apartment since I arrived home from church on Sunday. I just don’t think it is a good idea to spend too many days alone in my apartment. Granted I am “communicating” with people through e-mail, Facebook, the phone and playing Words with Friends on my Kindle. But that isn’t real human contact and after a day and a half, I needed human contact.

So I went up to the Christmas Tree Shop in South Portland and wandered around. Yes, I bought stuff too. But my main purpose for being there was to get out of the house. Then I went to Mardens and the Dollar Tree and took a long ride out in the country.

It was a glorious day outside. Reached a high of 51 degrees. Just like Spring!! I even drove for a while with my window down. On January 24th, no less.

When I had a full time job, I used to relish days when I could be in the apartment all day. I would be so happy if I went the whole day without stepping outside except for reaching for my newspaper on the top step. The novelty of this has worn away and now I don’t relish it so much. Not that I don’t enjoy being home and it’s nice to have freedom to do what I want when I want it. Not to mention the joy of not worrying about whether or not my job was going to end and when it will happen. I certainly am more relaxed than I used to be. But I need to make it a point to go out and be among humans. Cupid the Finicky is a fine feline friend but he doesn’t say much and, when he does talk, it is mostly to demand food from me.

Someday I will be back to working. And, when I am, hopefully I will look back on this time with fondness and happiness. But not too much longing. I hope I don’t fall back into the mode of dreaming about being home all day. I pray that my next work will be relaxing, joyful and stress free. And that it will be that way in reality rather than being told it was that way by my boss when it really just sucked.

Yes, today was a good day. Didn’t have to work at a sucky job, was able to relax and do some shopping and the weather was beautiful. Couldn’t ask for more than that!
