Winter Has Arrived!

Finally…weeks after the first day of winter and well into January and we are finally experiencing a winter day. I don’t count that fluky snow storm back at the end of October. That was just an oddity.

Today we had a major snow storm. Not a Nor’easter and not a blizzard but definitely a major snow storm. They had predicted that it would rain on the coast and we would have a trace to an inch of snow before and that would go away once the rain started. But the rain never came. It snowed all day. We must have a good four inches accumulated out there.

At one point I took a nap and the plow guy chose that time to come and plow. Either he didn’t beep his horn for me to come out and move my vehicle or I didn’t hear it. Either way, my van was buried under piles of snow. If I was paranoid, I would say he deliberately plowed me in. But I have decided not to be paranoid and just think that he did the best he could working around my van.

I did go out and shovel the snow away and then moved my van to a clear part of the parking lot. Since we only have two tenants in the building, we only have two vehicles in the lot. So my neighbor parked her car in front of the shed and I parked my van on the other side of the lot.

I really don’t mind the snow. Being unemployed, I didn’t have to worry about whether or not my boss was going to close work or let us out early. And then get irritated when he would inevitably send us home during the height of the storm. (His thinking is that it is easier to drive home while it is still light out but, heaven forbid, he just keep us all safe and have us stay home when it is bad weather). But I decided today to stay home and I didn’t have to ask anyone’s permission. I watched the storm from inside and only went out to move my van.

Another reason I don’t mind is that it is January 12th. We have already missed over two and a half months of winter. We only have to get through the rest of January, February (which is a short month) and most of March. Granted we do need a certain amount of snow each winter to avoid drought conditions in the summer. But I am not going to think about that but, instead, enjoy the idea that we are experiencing a short winter this year.

Winter has arrived and it will be a short stay!
