Time Miscalculation

I miscalculated time today. Well, at least for part of the day.

I had Bible Class at 8:30 am which lasted until 9:45. After that, I stopped by the church office to pick up a check (reimbursement from all the food I bought for the meals the past couple of weeks) and then went to breakfast with friends. As I was leaving the restaurant, I noticed that it was only a little after 11:00. As I sat in my vehicle and looked at my list for the day, I thought that I would be home by 12:00 or 12:30 at the latest. After all, I only had to get paper towels and some fresh veggies at the Farmer’s Market.

Well, that was the end of time behaving itself. As I drove through town, I saw the health food store and decided I needed some more herbal tea. I stopped and bought some but also talked to the clerk for a while about ear candles.

After the health food store, I headed to Target for the paper towels. Target is a HUGE time sucker. It is impossible to walk into the store, walk to the section that has the paper towels, which is in the far side of the store, without stopping and looking at everything on the way. It is all displayed in such an enticing manner that I kept looking and considering whether or not I needed to buy stuff I really didn’t need to buy.

When I finally left Target, with the paper towels…and some make-up, cleaning supplies and a new Swiffer (yes, I fell for those really cute commercials), I thought that I still could make it to the Wednesday Farmer’s Market but then I remembered that I needed eggs. If I went to my new favorite farmstand, I could get some fresh farm eggs. This required driving out to Waterboro. Oh well. The day was young…ok…maybe not so young but barely into the afternoon. Besides it was a nice day for a drive.

I wound my way through back roads until I finally arrived at the farmstand. I picked up some corn, tomatoes and zucchini and then asked about the eggs. They didn’t have eggs today. None. Darn!!

So I had to backtrack a little and go to the grocery store. Of course, wandering through the grocery store back to where they keep eggs, I saw other things I really needed. Ham, cheese, bread, english muffins and then, finally, the eggs.

After the grocery store, I headed for home. Was it 12:30 like I had planned? No. 1:00? No. It was almost 2:00.

What was I thinking? Did I think that my 1999 van would drive at warp speed? Did I think that time might stand still while I did so much extra shopping? Actually I’m not sure what I was thinking.

I did plan on spending the afternoon working on some stuff. But I was so beat by the time I arrived home that after I ate lunch, I ended up napping for an hour or so. That pretty much ate up my whole afternoon.

Some days I am really good at time management. My day runs literally like clock work. I do what I have to do in the time allotted and get everything done I want to get done. Today was not one of those days. I let the beautiful weather and the enticing displays at stores distract me so that time ran away. Oh well. I do have tomorrow and have high hopes I will accomplish what I have scheduled. Now I just need to waste some time, since I already wasted so much, before I go to bed.
