Boating III

My brother and I went boating for the third time last night and, sad to say, it may be the last time this season. Why? The water level has dropped.

The weather has been beautiful the last month or so and it has enabled us to go out boating more than we did last summer (which was once). But it also means it hasn’t rained a whole lot and so the water level has dropped.

In looking at the pond where my brother’s dock is located you can’t really tell that there isn’t as much water as there was a month ago.

But, as we traveled through the culvert into the lake, the trolling motor kept hitting bottom. Which means that the boat was only a few inches from the bottom. If the water level drops even more, which it will, we won’t be able to get the boat through the culvert.

If you look at this picture, you can see brand new plants along the side of the lake where last week was water.

And here is a picture that shows how far the water has dropped. The water used to be right up to the bottom of the land but now we can see right under the land where the water has eroded edges creating a small cave.

Oh well. Maybe we’ll get some rain, a lot of rain, and the water level was rise again. At least that is what we are hoping for, as much as it will be dreary and wet for everyone else. Actually, we should all be hoping for dreary and wet weather. The fire danger is getting high and we have had forest fires in Maine before.

I do want to mention that the sunset tonight was absolutely beautiful! When I was driving home, I stopped, turned the van around and pulled over to take pictures. Here is a good one:

It was the perfect ending to a lovely day.
