Thunderstorm!

I woke up this morning to the sound of trash cans rumbling up my neighbors driveway. At least, that is what I thought I was hearing. The town I live in provides very large trash and recycling cans for each residence and they make a low rumbling sound when they are rolled up and down the driveways. So I hear this rumbling sound and I think it is my neighbor bringing his trash can back up the driveway. But then I woke up a little more and realized that it is Monday and my neighbor (let’s call him Bob) is usually more fastidious than that and doesn’t leave his cans on the road. Bob brings them up pretty much as soon as they are emptied Friday morning.

As I drift in and out of sleep, I’m trying to figure out why Bob is running his trash cans up and down the driveway by my bedroom window. What an odd thing to be doing on a Monday morning. Then there is a bright flash that I see even though my eyes are closed. Three seconds later there is a loud boom and then a low rumble. Lightening and thunder!! It’s the first thunderstorm of the season!

Since I love thunderstorms, I pulled up my blinds and lay in bed looking out the window watching the storm. The time was a little after 6:00 am so the sun was rising behind the clouds. It must have been a lovely pink sunrise because for about 10 minutes or so, every time the lightening flashed, the clouds turned pink. A flash of pink then the booms and rumble of thunder. I never thought I would call a thunderstorm pretty but it really was a pretty display.

After I got out of bed, I turned on the TV to see the weather forecast and we are supposed to have thunderstorms on and off all day today. Part of a system that is creating havoc across the country from Texas on north. According to the weather person, the part of the front that is passing through Maine is weakened so we should only have mild storms. Like the lovely pink one this morning.

Actually he (the weather person) mentioned that we are supposed to get the storms today, a Nor’easter on Wednesday and another round of rain on Saturday. April showers at their finest! The good thing is that we should then have spectacular flowers in a few weeks. Yup, I do believe winter is over.

Usually rainy days combined with a Monday really does get me down (not to borrow too much from the song by Karen Carpenter) but somehow waking up to a thunderstorm brightens my spirits. It’s a new season, warmer weather and hopefully, by the time the seasons change again, things will be changed in my life for the better. A pretty pink thunderstorm really has given me hope and helps me to realize that life moves on in spectacular ways.
