Today’s Thoughts (2/8/11)

A few thoughts at the end of a Tuesday:

–        My neighbors in the front apartment on the second floor are moving out!  Yeah!!  Never saw two people who are so young yet so cynical, angry and unpleasant. Maybe it is due to their being so young because maybe they are just that immature.  But they made everyone’s lives around here just so…unpleasant.  Only word for it.  They yelled a lot, at each other and the person who lived below them. They bitched at our building manager all the time.  Griping and complaining about everything.  He told me this morning he is so glad they are going.  They have only lived here since the first of November but it feels like it has been years.  Good riddance, I say.  Let’s hope the new neighbors are nicer and quieter.

–        I received a number of positive responses from the cancellation of the bean supper on Saturday.  Everyone who mentioned it said I made the correct decision.  I did agonize over it on Saturday just because the weather was fairly calm and partly sunny most of the day.  Then, around mid to late afternoon, the skies became darker and then it started to snow and sleet and rain. We were in the midst of a bunch of nastiness about the time we would have been holding the supper.  So I breathed a sigh of relief that I had made the correct decision.

–        There was an article I saw today on CBSNews.com regarding the protests in Egypt and some of the humor coming out of it.  Granted it is a very serious situation and I do hope that Mubarak comes to his senses and just leaves the country. But someone wrote an article about some of the things being seen among the protestors such as someone who held a sign up that said: “Please leave…my arms hurt” or “Please leave. I want to get a haircut”.  Then the person went on to mention some of the things comedians are saying.  One of them that just cracked me up was from Conan O’Brien – “Hosni’s son Gamal Mubarak says he does not want to become President, which is just as well. If you’ve seen one Mubarak you’ve seen Gamal.” Then there was the one from Jimmy Fallon: “Egyptian President Mubarak’s son Gamal will not run for President. Why would he? An unpopular President is removed from office and his inexperienced son is voted in? That could never happen.” Finally there is the one from Jay Leno: “Now Egyptians are demanding to see President Mubarak’s birth certificate. There’s a rumor he was born in New Jersey.” If you want to read the full article it is here: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503543_162-20030979-503543.html?tag=stack . As I said, it is a serious situation but it is good to laugh a little.  Relieves the tension a bit.

–        After a few days of it being somewhat warm out (in the 30’s), the temperature is dropping again this evening.  Oh well. Twenty days left in February and that just leaves March. We will get through this winter just as we always get through winter.  But I do need to find something warm to put on and see if the cat wants to sit on my feet and warm them up.  After all, I feed him and water him and pet him.  He should earn his keep by warming up my toes.  Least he can do.

I guess that is all.  Stay warm. Stay safe. Have a good night!!
