Just a few thoughts at the end of a stormy day:
– It was nice watching the snow fall today, as long as I was just watching it from inside. I had to run to the post office first thing this morning and I was sliding all over the place. I probably should have waited for the roads to be treated but I was hoping, since it had just started snowing, it wouldn’t be so bad. I mis-judged that one. Once I was back at the office, I really enjoyed watching the snow fall. It was like being in the middle of a snow globe. Quite peaceful and beautiful!
– I am trying to solve a minor mystery at church. We are in need of new electric roaster pans to make the baked beans for our bean supper. The old ones were not working well anymore and the two that were donated ended up not working well either. (The new ones just didn’t get hot enough to cook the beans even though I had them cranked up to 450 degrees all day.) So I was planning on buying new ones before our next supper in February. On Sunday morning, I noticed there were two new roasters, one still sealed in the box, in Luther Hall. A friend told me that the one that was opened was damaged. I looked at it at, sure enough, some of the enamel on the inside was chipped off. I asked around to see who had bought them and everyone said they didn’t know. When I got home, I e-mailed someone who should know and she said she thought I had bought them. So I called a couple of other people and everyone said the same thing. They thought I had bought them. I am kind of out of ideas. I don’t know who bought them but I need to find out. One of them needs to be returned and I’m not sure if they were bought for the church or bought for a function at the church that I just don’t know about. And I still need two roasters for the bean supper. I don’t want to buy two more roasters if someone is expecting to be reimbursed for these roasters. It is quite the puzzle.
– Along the same subject line…this is why I believe in labeling everything and leaving notes. People leave things in the fridge or cupboards at church and just assume that someone will use them. But most of the time, whatever was left gets tossed in the trash. It is a tremendous waste but if it isn’t being used for a particular function, it is just taking up valuable space and we don’t need things sitting around. So a couple of us go through the fridge and the cupboards every once in a while and just toss everything that isn’t labeled. Not that we would do that with the roaster pans but it would be very helpful if someone had put a note on them saying who bought them and why. I am all for anonymous donations but sometimes that just isn’t feasible. Especially when something needs to be returned.
– One more note on the storm…it is now raining. Freezing rain. Yuck!!! And again I say YUCK!!! I don’t mind snow and I don’t mind rain but rain that freezes on contact and covers everything in ice just basically sucks. I guess there isn’t anything to be done except to salt everything down, scrape the car off and go very slowly. Heavy sigh….
I guess that is all for this Tuesday night. Hope everyone stays safe and calm in the midst of this winter weather!
