And then there were…

There is something going around the office.  Actually, let me clarify…there is an ILLNESS going around the office.  I felt clarification was in order since I have written about little critters running around our building before and I didn’t want you to think that this is another animal tale.

Anyway, my boss’s wife came in today and just didn’t look well.  She said she hadn’t been feeling good for a week or so and just couldn’t shake it.  Then someone else told me that he wasn’t feeling well and was going to go home.  About a half hour later, as I was out running errands, my boss called to ask where that someone was and I explained that he went home sick.  He informed me that someone else in that same department just left because he was sick.  Later on in the afternoon, a person from R&D left for a doctor’s appointment.  We only have seven full-time workers and two part-time.  So that means that we are down to four people since the two part-time people had already left for the day.

At the rate we are going, we could just shut the whole company down due to illness.  In August.  Not the middle of winter when people tend to get sick.  But in August.  When the weather is beautiful and has been the majority of the summer.  Hmmm…makes one wonder, doesn’t it?  If I hadn’t seen how sick everyone looked, I would have had my suspicions but they really didn’t look good at all.

I hope that whatever this is turns out to be a swift illness and that I don’t come down with it.  The good thing is that I just had my vacation so I don’t have to worry about wasting vacation time being sick.  But I have a lot of things going on and really don’t want to take the time to deal with some illness.  It just wouldn’t be convenient.  But, then again, is it ever convenient???

Time to spray some disinfectant and stay in my office away from people as much as possible.  If they really want to communicate with me, they can call me or slide papers under the door.  It might be a little isolating but at least I will stay healthy.  That is the theory anyway. We’ll have to see if my theory holds or if I am just fighting a losing battle.  I’m betting on this being a losing battle.  I probably already have been exposed and it’s just a matter of time.  Oh well…I am reading a good book and staying home and reading for a day or two wouldn’t be a bad thing.  Nothing like putting a positive spin on something that is yucky and inconvenient.
