Boating

FINALLY!!!  My brother and I finally made it out on the lake last night.  It was absolutely beautiful!  Not too hot, not too cool.  The lake was pretty smooth and there weren’t too many boaters, jet skis or other watercraft out so we had a pretty easy time.  If there are a lot of other people on the lake, the person driving (usually me) has to keep an eye out so that we don’t run into anyone and it makes it difficult to just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

The lake we were on is Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, ME.  It is a long, narrow lake and generally takes about 40 minutes to go down it and another 40 to come back…depending on our speed.  Since we like to make it all the way to Lower Mousam (under the Rt. 109 bridge), we don’t go too fast in order to save on fuel.  So we just put-putted along and looked at the houses lining the shore and watched the sunset.

We did see a seaplane flying over the lake, back and forth, pretty much the whole time we were out there.  Then, when we were about half way back up the lake, we could see him heading down the lake and flying much lower.  It occurred to us that he might be getting ready to land on the water so I headed closer to the shore and cut the engine back to watch.  Sure enough, he went by us, we waved at each other and he did a touch and go (touched down and immediately lifted off again).  It was pretty cool!  Not something we have ever seen before.

All in all, it was a wonderful evening of boating.  I’m glad we made it out because for the next seven days or so, we are going to have showers or thunderstorms every night.  Wish it would stop doing that…it cuts into our plans to be out on the lake enjoying the summer…. and we know it is all about us!!
