Book Obsession

Don’t you just love a book for which you are obsessed?  A book that you don’t want to put down?  A book that you want to stop every few pages and just savor how good it is and then read some more, savor some more, read some more, savor some more until you realize that it is midnight and if you don’t go to sleep, you will crash at your desk the next day and subsequently might lose your job?  Don’t you just love that kind of book?

I am reading the second book by Stieg Larsson, The Girl Who Played With Fire.  I already finished the first book, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  That book was so good that, as soon as I finished, I went out and bought the second book.  I waited until I got in my car before I started reading it but I sat there for a good twenty minutes before I started the engine and went on my way.  Of course, at every stoplight, I picked the book up and read a paragraph or two.  It is really that good.

As I have mentioned before, I love to read.  Ever since I can remember picking up a book when I was a child, I have loved books.  The ones that I love are the books I can read over and over again and find something new each time.  Not over and over again in a row but read it and then a few years (or ten years) later, pick it up and read it again.  I have a feeling that these Stieg Larsson books will be the same way.

I do have my favorite authors and I will try to read everything they write.  My all time favorite is Dorothy Gilman who wrote the Mrs. Pollifax series.  But she also wrote a number of other books and, although they are short, are packed full and really captivate me.  Another favorite author is Rosamunde Pilcher, who wrote The Shell Seekers, which is a wonderful book. Of course there is always John Grisham, Wilbur Smith and Jeffrey Lent (although his books are a little graphic).  Those are the authors that I remember their names.  There have been dozens and dozens of others where I can’t remember the author’s name but every once in a while, I’ll come across a book by them and then I will remember that I really like the way they write.

I highly recommend everything that Stieg Larsson has written.  I would tell you about them but, if you haven’t read them, I don’t want to spoil it for you.  Just start reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and see if it doesn’t captivate you the way it has captured me.

Back to reading and savoring…
