After Irene

Depending on where you live and what you were expecting, Hurricane Irene was either a tragic storm or very disappointing. I know that, as of right now, 37 people died from the storm and there is 2 to 3 billion dollars worth of damage. And I know that with the flooding still happening, […]

Preparing for Irene

For those who have been oblivious to the recent news, we have a hurricane coming up the coast of the United States. It is currently pounding on the mid-Atlantic states and heading towards New York City, New Jersey, Long Island and that whole area. After that it is going to keep heading […]

Boating VI

We have been blessed with rain recently so my brother and I were able to go out on the lake for the sixth time this season last night. JOY!

Ted, my brother, pointed out to me that I keep taking pictures of the lake and it basically doesn’t change that much. He is sort of […]

Tremor Envy

I missed it. The big earthquake yesterday that was felt in 22 states by millions of people and I missed it. I was taking a brief nap from 1:45 until around 2:30 and, when I woke up, I had an e-mail from my brother saying “Just had an earthquake here!”.

There is a thunderstorm just west of here. I hear the rumbling and the sky is so dark that it looks like twilight even though it is only 5:30 in the afternoon.

“The Help”

I went to see “The Help” tonight. For those who don’t know, “The Help” is a movie based on a book of the same name that is about what it was like for African Americans in Jackson, MS during the early sixties from the perspective of the help, the women who worked […]

Today’s Thoughts (8/15/11)

These are some thoughts for today but also some follow-ups to previous postings:

– There is something seriously wrong when it is August 15th and I have to wear sweat pants and a light sweater because of the chilly breeze coming in the window. Yes, I could close my windows but my theory is that […]

Blueberry Festival

Our Blueberry Festival was a HUGE success! We sold all the baked goods and many of the crafts. We even had a local TV crew show up. They didn’t interview me and I am hoping I didn’t end up on camera. I really don’t like cameras and, since I don’t like having my picture taken […]

Split Day (Boating V)

Today was a split day. Usually, in a typical day, I have one major event, such as church or a boat ride or a project to work on at church (like the bean supper). But today I had two major events. I helped out with the pie baking for our blueberry festival this morning and […]
